Almost every one of us goes through the pain of a headache. Headache is a pain that often affects areas such as our head, forehead, neck or even our face. While the pain is common, the reasons for the pain can vary drastically from person to person.
Headaches usually occur either once in a while and last from about few to several hours, or they could even come every so often. In either way if the headache is unbearable and too persistent, it’s always best to consult a doctor. Here are some of the causes of headache.
Causes of Headache:
#1 – Allergies:
Amongst several other thing’s allergies cause, one of them is headaches. This is mostly known to affect the front of your head or sinus areas due to the mucus build up. This also has the possibility of triggering a migraine headache. Headaches caused by allergies are often treated by certain over-the-counter medications. However, for headaches caused through sinus infection, antibiotics prescribed by a doctor are most helpful in clearing the infection and reliving the headache.

#2 – Tension:
This is the most familiar cause of headaches and could occur due to various reasons such as stress and worries or even bad posture and tight muscles. These types of headaches are commonly felt amongst both teenagers as well as adults. You can treat them by managing your stress levels, attending neck physio, taking appropriate medications or applying cold or hot pads on the area.
#3 – Hormones:
There are several things that could cause a hormonal headache. For example, menstrual cycles, pregnancy, oral contraceptives, menopause, etc. Headaches caused due to the hormone fluctuations during certain such periods is because of the drop in Oestrogen levels. While prescribed medicines can help control the pain, following certain lifestyle changes such as doing yoga, having a good diet, etc could also help greatly.
#4 – Fatigue:
Fatigue or hardcore physical activities can cause exertion headaches. This is mostly due to the fact that the blood is pumped to your skull in an excessive manner during such intense physical movements like exercising, sexual intercourse, etc. Having an exertion headache however doesn’t last too long and could be eased with appropriate medicines as well such as aspirin, Advil, etc.

#5 – Drinking:
This is a most commonly known cause that is especially felt as hangovers which can last for hours post drinking. If you’re someone who already has migraine headaches, alcohol can easily trigger it. The ethanol present in the alcohol is what kick-starts the migraine. Chugging down a lot of water and taking in anti-inflammatory medications such as Panadol, aspirin, etc can help ease the headache.
#6 – Caffeine:
Whether you’re taking in way too much caffeine, or decided to reduce the usual amount you take, it can cause headaches anyway. When your system is used to a certain level of caffeine, cutting back can change the chemistry and give you a headache. The best way to treat it is to either have proper amounts or withdraw it one cup at a time.
